Lundy

So called because, although the Island of Lundy cannot be seen, it is the direction in which to aim when the prevailing wind is blowing. The penalty for missing right is not as great as it was with the Buckthorn now removed and often a shot to the right gets a favourable kick on to the green. To miss left leaves a very tricky pitch or chip.

Watch the wind, check the flags on the course to the left of you, or on the church on the horizon. They sometimes blow in a different direction from the flag on the green in front of you. This is the effect the dunes are having. The wind direction above the dunes is different from below them. Since your ball flight will be mostly above the dunes, you may need to aim to the right even if the flag is blowing that way.
